Day 1
We arrived in Tanzania around 2am Sunday morning. We had a delay at Manchester, raising the blood pressure somewhat but luckily we caught our connecting flight and our luggage was waiting for us when we arrived. We were greeted in Dar Es Salaam airport by Mo from the Work the World team who transported us to Masaki House, our home for 3 weeks. We were both exhausted, ready for a good nights sleep, however we opened the bedroom door to discover bunk beds were waiting for us! Now don’t get us wrong, absolutely loved a bunk bed many moons ago but clambering onto the top bunk in your 30’s, sleep deprived and squeezing into a mosquito net at 5 foot 8 is absolute comedy gold! The beds are actually very comfy though, once you’re in it.
We spent our first day familiarising ourselves with the house, catching some rays by the pool and visiting the local supermarket. The house is very quiet as many are in Zanzibar for the weekend. Tomorrow we have an orientation day at the hospital so we’ll have much more to report then…
