Waheyyy! Welcome to our first blog post! So our trip begins on Saturday 25th June 2022 for one month. We booked our trip through Work the World who have been amazing at organising everything for us, we couldn't recommend them enough. When choosing our destination, Africa was always our first choice.
We’ll be spending 3 weeks volunteering in Muhimbili National Hospital A&E in Dar Es Salaam and 1 week in a healthcare clinic in a rural village. We feel privileged to be able to work in a different healthcare system, broadening our skills, learning from others and helping others less fortunate than we are in the UK. Communication will play a big part in our time in Tanzania, talking is something we’re both masters at but honestly Swahili is a different level!
But it’s not all work work work, we’re going to enjoy some playtime after a very full on second year of study and placement hours. We’re doing a weekend on safari (lifelong dream for us both), a trip to Zanzibar, exploring the local area, lazing around in the 30 degree heat, bike rides, craft afternoons and milking cows in the rural village… you name it, we’re doing it!
Anyway, we (Jennie) still needs to finish packing and this isn’t getting anything done! This time tomorrow we'll be in the airport, hopefully the queues aren't horrendous... wish us luck!
